Ellicott City, a short drive from Baltimore, is known as being Maryland’s most haunted smallish town (it had a population under 60,000 as of the 2000 census). It was founded back in 1772 and although the population has been booming in recent years, a number of earlier residents still like to call Ellicott City their afterlife home. Visit Lilburn, perhaps the most haunted house in the state of Maryland. The house was built back in 1857, and is said to be haunted by the daughter of the original owner who died in childbirth and also perhaps by the original owner himself or other members of the family who also died there. The house passes through its owners’ hands with some frequency-recent owners planned to convert it into a B&B, but when last heard from they had put it back on the market and it may even be for sale at the time you visit.
