If you’re a member of your school’s junior varsity cheerleading squad but hope to make the transition to the varsity team, consider some strategies that will improve your chances of getting to the next level. With a little dedication, you’ll be cheering on the “A” squad in no time. Determine if you’re ready for the added schedule and skills. As a member of the varsity squad, you may be required to participate in competitions, attend more games and practices and perfect additional routines and complex stunts. Weigh the added responsibilities to see if you’ll be able to juggle them with your schoolwork and other activities. Talk to the varsity advisor and ask her if she thinks you’re ready for the next level of cheerleading. If you tried out last year but didn’t make that squad, use the judges’ critiques as a guide for what to work on leading up to this year’s tryouts. Find a mentor on the varsity squad who can show you the ropes and help you train for the tryouts. They may be able to gi
