How Do You Go Camping At The Devils Postpile National Monument?

0

In the heart of California’s Eastern Sierra, the Devils Postpile National Monument has pristine mountain scenery, a 101-foot high waterfall called Rainbow Falls and, of course, the Devils Postpile itself. This rare geologic formation is made of unusually symmetrical columns of basalt that tower 60 feet high. Read on for more information on camping in this natural wonder. Plan a summer or early fall trip. The campground closes for the winter in October and usually opens in mid-June, depending on the snowpack. The monument’s sole campground has 21 campsites that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted. The campground has flush toilets, running water, picnic tables, firepits and bear-proof lockers. Showers and RV hook-ups are not available. Only a few sites are capable of holding trailers 20 to 30 feet in length. Campsites are $14 per night, plus a U.S. Forest Service Transportation Fee.
