The rear view mirror on a Ford is held to the window via a tab, or button as some call it, which is glued to the windshield glass. In the event the rear view mirror is knocked off the windshield, or the windshield is replaced, the tab will need to be reattached. While this procedure is far from difficult, it does require a bit of finesse. Apply too gently and the mirror will fall off; too much force and the windshield can crack. Mark the location of the tab on the exterior of the windshield by drawing a circle precisely around the tab’s location. If this is a new windshield, hold the mirror in place from the inside and mark around it with the crayon or grease pencil, then duplicate the mark on the windshield’s exterior.
