How Do You Get The Sour Smell Out Of Bath Towels?
When the weather warms, it is just matter of time before busy family members forget to dry the towels after showers or a quick dip in the pool. More often than not damp towels are left in bag in the back of the car or are thrown into the hamper before they have dried. In humid weather, this sets the stage for mildew to develop, leaving you with sour smelly towels. Once washed and dried, they appear to be fresh, but when they get damp the odor returns. Towels require extra care to prevent mildew and keep the odor at bay. Fill the washer with hot water and add 2 cups of white vinegar. Allow the washer to agitate for two minutes and add the towels. Set the washer for the longest wash cycle. Do not add detergent or fabric softener. Let the towels wash in the vinegar and water. Fill the washer a second time with hot water and add your normal laundry detergent. Add fabric softener and wash the towels as usual. Dry the towels in the dryer on the hottest setting.
