• Be aware of what you did; if it is something very serious, there is virtually no chance of you getting out of it. • Tell the truth. It is easiest to lie, but chances are you will get much farther if you tell the truth. • If the occasion is appropriate, try crying a little bit or write a long letter on how sorry you are, and how unfit you are for the more severe types of punishment. • Use convincing and reasonable logic to make the dean, principal, teacher, or other supervisor of your punishment to feel sorry for you, or make it seem as if the occurrence was not your fault. The process will vary widely for each person and their degree of involvement in, and control over, the situation. Argue your punishment in a mature, responsible way.
