Mildew on grout is a common problem in any area that gets wet frequently or if you live in a humid damp area. Mildew stains can be very difficult to remove from grout. Of course prevention is best remedy. Sealing your grout is the best way to prevent staining from mildew. A grout sealer will provide a surface that will wipe off rather than have a porous surface that mildew can gain a foothold. Wet an old toothbrush, nail brush or nylon scrubbie with lemon juice, dip it in salt and scrub the mildew area. Rinse well with plain water and dry. Dip the brush or nylon scrubbie in bleach and scrub the area. Scrub not only the mildew area but all of the grout because the bleach may lighten the color of the grout even if it is white. You don’t want obvious white or lighten areas of grout. Rinse the area well with plain water and dry.
