Once ants have located a source of food, they leave behind a chemical marker known as pheromones which lead the colony to food. The pheromone can be removed by cleaning your counters or cabinets with warm water and any common household cleaner such as ammonia. It never hurts to mop the kitchen floor with a cleaner and hot water as well. Once the targeted area is clean, take a fresh clove of garlic and cut it in half. Using the freshly cut exposed area of the garlic like a piece of chalk and draw a continuous line around the edge of the affected counter and back splash as well.
