How do you get into fiction writing, particulary posing drafts or ideas to publishers?
Non-fiction is different (you usually propose a detailed outline to an agent or publisher first) but with fiction writing, everyone (ie literary agents and editors) will tell you that you have to write the book first. However many drafts it takes to get your project to the best and highest quality you can possibly, possibly make it. THEN you submit to literary agents what is called a “query letter” describing BRIEFLY your book and what it’s about. Very few publishing houses these days accept unsolicited submissions – they only deal with agents who act as a sort of sieve. And submitting a query letter to literary agents is an art unto itself.
