How Do You Get HIV Prophylaxis Treatment (Within 36 Hours)?
HIV postexposure prophylaxis treatment is a treatment you can take after HIV exposure which can reduce your risk of contracting the disease by 75-80%, according to the CDC. Prophylaxis is routinely given to social workers who are exposed to HIV on a daily basis. However, doctors are *reclutant* to give it to the general public and promote ignorance of its existence because basically, they think people would misuse it. WHAT?! Granted, the side effects are severe, and the treatment costs $1,600. But this is no reason to not give freaked out people the option, and moreover, to DENY the prescription to a patient who thinks they need it, because there’s NO WAY to tell, like with the flu. How do I know this? Because I was freaked out once, went to the ER, and they didn’t even know what it WAS. I told them, and the doctor had to go ask.
