I know I hate this about excel also. Theres sort of a way around it, but its a bit tricky. Use the mid function refer the input to a pair of columns (left and right columns) with 1/2 the number on the left and the other 1/2 on the other side. This never worked as well for me because it does get so confusing and things tend to get scrambed if you’re not completely organized with it. I like the stem and leaf plot too but it won’t work if you need to use these numbers for formulas rather than just a database. Example- You have the numbers 1 13 15 17 23 27 29 30 33 So stem and leaf, you would have: 1 357 2 379 3 03 Hmm there may be a formula you can plug in for a stem and leaf if each leave was to be given its own cell and value.
