How Do You Get A USGA Handicap?
The U.S. Golf Association (USGA) created a system of handicapping to allow golfers to compare how well they played in a given round of golf to another golfer based on their relative skill levels. For example, on player might shoot a 76 but have a horrible round while another player might shoot an 80 and consider it their best round ever. However, instead of representing an average, the USGA handicapping system represents a “best average” so you will only shoot your handicap about one in four rounds. To calculate your handicap, you must first calculate your handicap index and then find your handicap for a particular course. Compile your scores, course ratings and slope ratings for your past 20 rounds of golf. The course rating and slope ratings can be found on the scorecards. Compute the handicap differential for each round. Subtract the course rating from your score, multiply the result by 113 and divide by the slope rating. Round each of the handicap differentials to the nearest tenth
