How Do You Get A Teaching Job?
• Collect information on the advantages and disadvantages of a teaching career. • Interview teachers who are currently employed or recently retired. • Volunteer to work in a classroom near you. This experience will provide hands on experience as well as a bird’s eye view of an entire school. • Volunteer to teach groups in various settings such as a summer camp, church activities, senior centers or social services facilities. • Study the course catalogs of several teacher education programs at accredited colleges. • Check out the requirements for a degree that will lead to a teaching credential. • Study the requirements for teaching at the level of your choice. • Enroll in a college with the best available program in teacher education. • Complete the requirements with an emphasis on excellent grades. Most states require a Bachelor’s Degree although some states require a fifth year of study or a Master’s Degree. • Practice teach under a mentor at a local school approved by the education
