How Do You Get A Child To Do Chores?
Long gone are the days when the children of a family were bringing in firewood, feeding the chickens, or whitewashing fences. Today’s kids typically hold chores such as loading the dishwasher, vacuuming or taking out the garbage each week. It is not unreasonable to ask that your children contribute to the family household by doing such tasks, and getting them to do so may not be as difficult as you would think. Lead by example. Children pick up on your actions very early. If they see your sloppy bedroom, dishes left on the table and clothes on the floor, they will mimic those behaviors as it seems acceptable. Start when they’re young. Set a routine as your children will more easily adjust the earlier you introduce chores into their daily activity. Post a list of clearly defined chores and who is responsible for each duty. Be flexible. If one child spends a lot of time on a big project, make some adjustments to their other chores.
