How Do You Get A 504 Plan At School?
A 504 plan at school provides protections under the American’s with Disabilities Act for anyone with an identified disability. Not everyone with an identified disability requires these services at school, but if they do, then the school is required to develop a 504 plan for them. The 504 plan will provide accommodations that the school is legally required to follow. A 504 plan can provide services in grade school and in college. Take a copy of any evaluation reports to the school. If your child has been evaluated, then take a copy of that evaluation to the school to show them. If you are an adult and are seeking help for yourself in college, then take a copy of your evaluation report to the college. If you suspect a disability but have not had an evaluation done yet, then you will need to get one done. Some evaluations can be done by the school. An example would be an evaluation for dyslexia or for other types of learning disabilities. Meet with your school’s 504 coordinator. At most g
