How Do You Germinate Windmill Palm Tree Seeds?
While they don’t get quite as tall as their cousins, the towering wax palms, windmill palms can reach up to 30 feet high. They are usually, however, grown much smaller. Popular for their cold-hardiness, they can be found growing even as far north as Canada. The windmill palm is also a slow-growing tree which makes it a good choice for container growing. Mix together 1 tsp. of hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup of water. Drop the seeds into the solution and allow them to soak for 24 hours. Remove the seeds from the solution. Clean the seed covering of any remaining flesh. Mix 1 pint of vermiculite with 2 tbsp. of water, so that the vermiculite is just barely moist. Place this in the plastic bag. Sprinkle the seeds on top of the vermiculite and seal the bag. Place the bag in the warmest spot in the home (such as near the water heater). Check the bag periodically to make sure that the vermiculite is still moist. The seeds should germinate in under one month.
