In-ground swimming pools are typically manufactured with fiberglass, vinyl or concrete. Fiberglass is among the most popular options because it is easy to install and maintain. The typical fiberglass pool surface will last 15 to 20 years before the smooth gel-coat needs to be reapplied. While it is a time-consuming job, you can so it with the right tools. Remove as much of the old gel-coat surface as possible using a hand sander and 24-grit sanding pad. Thoroughly vacuum sanding debris with a wet/dry vacuum. Wash down the sides and bottom of the pool using a soft cloth and water. Allow the surface to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
