How Do You Freeze Okra With A Foodsaver?
If you like fresh okra but have too many pods to use in one meal, you can use your Foodsaver to freeze them. A little preparation is all that is needed to ensure you retain your okra’s color, flavor, texture and nutrients during storage. Put the pot of water on to boil. Wash the okra to remove any dirt and debris. Slice the stems off the pods. When all the pods have been cut off, place the pods into the boiling water to blanch. Blanch the okra for about 3 to 4 minutes. This is being done to kill any enzymes and bacteria that will destroy or break down the color, flavor, texture and nutrients during the okra’s time in the freezer. If you need to do several batches, you can use the same boiling water. Use your tongs or slotted spoon to remove the okra and place the pods into the bowl of cold water. Add ice to help speed up the cooling process. Drain and dry the okra after it has cooled. At this point, you can leave the okra whole or slice the pods so that they’re ready to use right out o
