How Do You Freeze Fresh Strawberries With Sugar?
As the leader in strawberry production, the U.S. strawberry industry is $1.2 billion a year strong and growing. This sweet berry, which contains only 45 calories per cup, is the perfect accessory fruit and is the preferred flavoring in many syrups, jams and desserts. Consumed alone or on top of a piece of shortcake, strawberries are the perfect topping for most anything. Freezing strawberries with sugar helps to give them a sweet taste to be enjoyed at a later date. Wash the strawberries in a colander under cool running water. Remove any strawberries that are damaged or bruised. Place the strawberries on a clean dry towel and place another clean dry towel on top of them to blot any excess moisture. Place the strawberries in a bowl and pour in ¾ cup of sugar per quart of strawberries. Stir the sugar and strawberries until the sugar has dissolved. Place the strawberries in an airtight bag or container and freeze for at least 4 hours.
