Freezing blueberries and blackberries is a great way to preserve freshness. Soon after they have been freshly picked or purchased in season is the best time to freeze these berries. Having frozen fresh berries in the freezer will let you add them to homemade scones, pies and muffins, all year round. No longer will you need to wait until berries are in season to enjoy these treats. The method is the same for freezing blueberries and blackberries, as well as other types of berries (except strawberries). Begin with very fresh, very ripe berries. Rinse the berries thoroughly with cold water. Drain the berries in a colander until they are as dry as possible. Spread the berries in a single layer on a sheet pan.
