How Do You Free Old Fixtures From Painted Ceilings?
We’ve all seen the old lighting fixture in a home that has been painted over and around it seems a hundred times. The problem is that the bond the paint makes with the fixture is tighter that Gorilla glue. If you simply loosen the screws and pull the ceiling fixture down, the fixture will also pull stips of paint from the ceiling. Sometimes these will extend out far from the covered area and that will require some painting to fix the ugly mess. However, if you simply take a razor knife and a putty knife to score around the fixture ceiling ring and pull down gently, the fixture will release from the painted ceiling. That way, the removal will be quick and easy. The new fixture will be able to be mounted and will likely make a perfect fit over the existing ring you left from the old fixture.
