How Do You Frame Out Overhead Garage Doors?

0

Framing out overhead garage doors is not a job that should be done with just 1 or 2 people. The header needed for this type of job can be 200 lbs+, like with any framing job, the right technique will always save you time, money, and back work. First, check all your measurements. Standard rough opening measurements for garage doors should be 3″ wider, and 1-1/2″ taller then the door. Example a 16’x8′ garage door would have a rough opening of 16’3″x8’1-1/2″. Note: the measurements here are based off using 2×6’s wrap the entire inside of the door opening with (both sides, and underneath the header). Double check your measurements, this is a job you really need to measure twice and cut once. Measure off the top of concrete, or where the concrete will be. Pull your measurement up.(make sure you add for the soffit 1-1/2 if using 2×6 and 3/4 for 1×6). Next, cut the header. The header needs to be 6″ wider then the rough opening, or 9″ wider then the garage door. There should be 4 wall studs on
