Whether you are framing and installing an interior door in a newly-constructed space or are are trying to create a new doorway in your existing home with studs already placed in the wall, you’ll use the same technique, tools and materials to complete your project. Measure your door and cut an opening in your wall to fit. Your frame will be built 6 inches wider and 1 inch taller than the actual size of the door you plan to install to allow for the frame and door materials. The standard door height is 6’8″ and typically, a door opening is around 2’8″. Cut a 2×4 piece the width of the opening and nail to the floor as a shoe platform for the studs. Cut 2×4 pieces to size and install them as studs on both sides of the door opening to fit the door measurement plus 6 inches (refer to illustration 2 in the resource provided).
