How Do You Format A Hard Drive While Running Windows XP?

0

There are a couple reasons to format a hard drive while running Windows XP. You may want to reconfigure the drive if it had a virus or other problem or you may want to simply erase the data so that you can dispose of the drive without worrying about a breach of security. The process is pretty easy if you have a little bit of technical knowledge, or if you have a tech savvy friend on standby. Connect the hard drive you wish to format to your computer using an external drive bay. Slide the drive securely into the bay without using too much pressure. Then connect the bay to your machine with a FireWire 400 or 800 cable or a USB 2.0 cable, depending on the bay type. Power up your machine and open “My Computer” by double-clicking on the icon in the upper left corner of the desktop. If you don’t see the icon on your desktop, you may have uninstalled the quick start icon. Choose “My Computer” off of the Start menu instead. Look at the list of drives under “Hard Disk Drives” and right-click on
