How Do You Format A Blank CD-RW Disk?

0

Before you can use a blank CD-RW disc to save and archive files, you must format the device. The way a disc is formatted tells the computer or device into which you insert it how to handle the files that it reads. Formatting a blank CD-RW takes about five minutes. Put the CD-RW in your drive. Choose “Burn files to disc” in the window that appears. Enter a name in the next dialog box that appears. Click “show formatting options” and then choose either “Live File System” or “Mastered.” Use Live File System if you are burning a couple of files to the disk, want to reformat the disk at a later time and if you will be using the disk on a Windows XP, Vista or 7 machine. Use the Mastered option if you are burning a large number of files and will be using the CD-RW on a CD player or operating system versions earlier than Windows XP. Hit the “Next” button. The CD-RW is ready for burning.
