How Do You Force Yourself To Stop Any Bad Habit?
If you have any bad habits, an easy way to force yourself to stop them is by reminding yourself of why you should stop. Maybe for some of you the reminder is an event, and for others it could be a certain person. An easy technique that I learned actually involves a little bit of physical pain to associate with the habit, so we can consciously and subconsciously force ourselves to stop doing whatever it is we want to stop. How is this self-inflicted pain applied? All we need is a rubber band. Place your hand inside the rubber band and let it sit around your wrist. Whenever you catch yourself performing your “bad habit”, give a little tug on the rubber band and let go so it snaps back at your wrist. Be careful not to pull back too far, or else the pain could really hurt. We’re only looking for a slight sensation around the wrist, which is all we need in our heads to associate with our bad habit.
