Many Internet connection issues are the result of corrupted or damaged Winsock settings. Winsock is part of the protocol that allows Windows computers to connect to the Internet and other local area networks. Corrupted files may happen because of a virus infection or installation of network software. Using the WinsockFix tool, you can easily reset the Winsock settings and solve many Internet connectivity problems. Step 1 Download the Winsock Fix tool (see link in Resources) on a computer with Internet access. Save the tool to a flash drive or floppy disk and copy onto the damaged computer. Step 2 Double-click on Winsock Fix. Step 3 Click ReG-Backup to make a backup copy of your Registry. Save this in a convenient location such as the desktop. Step 4 Click Fix to reset the Winsock settings. This will result in the computer temporarily losing Internet connection. Step 5 Reboot when prompted.
