The registry system in Windows is the area in which computer information such as new program installations, uninstallations and personal preferences are kept. Windows registry contains files referred to as registry files. Your computer’s performance can suffer when these files become corrupted. The files in the registry system becomes corrupted when remnants of old programs pile up causing the registry to become clogged and the files to conflict with one another. CCleaner is a free Windows registry scanner that finds and repairs errors in the registry system. Step 1 Download the CCleaner program (see resource below) and install the software. Step 2 Open the CCleaner software by double-clicking on the desktop icon. Step 3 Click on the icon entitled “Registry” on the left side of the program window. Step 4 Click on the “Scan for Issues” button on the bottom half of the program screen. Step 5 Check the registry errors that you want CCleaner to repair and uncheck the errors that you do not
