The seal on a GE refrigerator door does not last forever. After hundreds of uses, the door seal will eventually begin to dry out. Once the drying process has begun, there is not much that can be done to salvage it. You can, however, extend the life of your GE refrigerator door seal by cleaning it regularly. Before you remove the door seal from your refrigerator door, look at the new gasket to ensure it is the correct size. Handle the gasket by the corners to avoid breaking the delicate magnet material. Carefully unfold the gasket and lay it out on the floor. Holding the blow dryer 3 or 4 inches above the gasket, move the dryer back and forth over the bent areas of the gasket. The magnet material will soften slightly and begin to lay flat. Open the refrigerator door. Slip a flat-head screwdriver under the edge of the door seal and pull.
