How Do You Fix Squealing Garage Doors?
The squeaking and squealing of a garage door every time it opens and closes is annoying and could be the prelude to a bigger problem just waiting to occur. If you hear anything more than the smooth sound of a door rolling on its tracks, check the source of the noise immediately. Complete any maintenance that is needed. Plan to take a few minutes each spring and fall to inspect the door mechanism. \ Step 1 Have sufficient light either from an overhead light, flashlight or drop light. Step 2 Disengage an automatic door opener by pulling the red cord. Slowly open and close the garage door manually to determine the location of the noise. Step 3 Locate which moving part(s) of the door structure is causing the noise–the springs, the rollers traveling within the track, or the pulleys. Step 4 Determine if any of these parts are loose, slightly out of position and rubbing against other surfaces, or if they have a build up of dirt that is obstructing movement.
