How Do You Fix Skipping DVD Discs?
The most common causes of DVD skipping are dust and scratches on the disc. A DVD player uses a laser to read tiny pitted grooves on the DVD. When dust or scratches block or interfere with the laser, errors in playback can occur. To stop the DVD from skipping, clean the surface of the DVD. Test the DVD after each cleaning attempt in order to determine if the problem has been remedied. Step 1 Examine the DVD for dust and scratches. If there is dust, attempt to clean the DVD. If there are deep scratches or gouges, the DVD may be irreparable. Step 2 Use a can of compressed air to blow dust off of the DVD. Dust interferes with a DVD player’s ability to read a disc. Step 3 Wipe the DVD with a soft microfiber or cotton cloth. Start at the center of the DVD and wipe directly outward toward the edge, not in a circular fashion.
