How Do You Fix Rusted Dishwasher Trays?
When rust attacks your dishwasher racks, it is usually because an errant knife or other sharp object has nicked the rubber coating and exposed the metal rack to the moist environment of the dishwasher. Since replacement racks can cost upwards of 100 dollars, you probably would prefer to fix the problem rather than replace the rack. However, if you do not completely eliminate the rust before you cover it up, you will eventually find yourself with a rack that has been eaten completely away from the inside. Step 1 Clean the dishwasher rack. Many areas that appear to be rust may in fact be caked-on food. Wash the rack using mild detergent and a cleaning rag to remove any dirt and leftover food. As you clean, take note of any rusty spots. Some rust may flake off when you are cleaning.
