Flickering fluorescent lights drive people batty. If your light tube is out or flickering, you can troubleshoot and repair it easily. Follow these steps and tips to fix or replace a fluorescent light. Step 1 Remove the cover of the light fixture, if there is one, exposing the tubes (bulbs) inside. Step 2 Check to see if the bulb is loose where it connects to the light fixture. Wiggle it a little and it may come back on. Step 3 Note if the ends of the tube are very discolored. A little discoloration is normal, but a very dark area suggests you need to replace the tube even if it has not gone completely out. Flickering or almost burned out tubes place a strain on the remainder of the fluorescent light fixture components. Step 4 Turn off the switch that controls the light fixture. Step 5 Rotate the ends of the tube until you can slide one of the electrodes out the slot where they plug into the fixture, if you need to replace it.
