Long file names are a hassle to deal with. Not only do they take up precious screen real estate, but they are often not very descriptive, and it is difficult to decipher what’s actually in the file. Fortunately, renaming files in both Mac and Windows environments is incredibly easy, and even renaming a batch of files doesn’t require much extra work, using either Macintosh’s built-in Automator program or the shareware program File Renamer Turbo for Windows.
