How Do You Fix Hard Drive Failure?
Hard drive failure can come in many guises, ranging from something a basic repair utility can fix to a major problem for which you will need to take your machine in to a professional. You can use some steps at home to try to fix your hard drive, whether your computer will turn on or not. If Your Computer Will Start Step 1 Close any open files or applications. Step 2 Open “My Computer” and right-click the hard drive you wish to fix. Select “Properties” from the menu that pops up. Step 3 Click the “Error-Checking” tab. Step 4 Click the “Check Now” button. A window will pop up displaying several options. To simply check your disk without making any changes, leave all boxes unchecked. To automatically fix any errors, check the “Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors” box. Step 5 Click “Start.” A utility called CHKDSK will run through your entire hard drive looking for errors.
