How Do You Fix Creaking Bicycle Pedals?
Creaky bike pedals can ruin the peacefulness of a bike ride. It can also mean that you need to fix the pedals because they aren’t safe. Thankfully there aren’t too many causes of creaky pedals, so fixing the problem can be as easy as lubricating the pedals or just tightening them down. Directions Step 1 Start by lubing and cleaning the pedals. Lubrication keeps the pedals turning smoothly. Built-up dirt or grime can also cause the pedals to creak. Step 2 Check to see if your pedals are loose. If they are, that could be the cause of the noise. Tighten down the pedals with the pedal wrench or Allen key. Step 3 Check the cleats if you use clipless pedals. If the cleats are worn down, there is less contact from the cleat to the pedal, so that could be causing the noise. Look into replacing your cleats. Step 4 If your pedals are old or the noise isn’t going away, it might be the bearings in your pedals. The local bike shop might be able to fix them, but chances are you need new pedals.
