Amazing stories have been told of how damage was done to a wooden heirloom or prize purchase. Most often, puppies are the culprit but an escaped macaw can do a lot of damage, too. If needed, sand slightly to smooth the surface using steel wool then clean the surface again. Step 2 Determine the extent of the damage from chewing. Damage ranges include: marking, indents and splintering, and altered surface structure. Step 3 Cover the marks made by chewing with crayons or scratch products.
