How Do You Fix An Outdoor Motion Sensor Light?
Repairing a broken motion sensor is easier than you think. There is no need to replace the entire unit. Often it is just the motion sensing part of the fixture. This is far less costly than replacing the entire fixture. Get a new motion sensing unit (not fixture). Turn off power to the light. Remove the 2 screws that secure the fixture into the electrical box housing. Locate the three wires coming from the center of the motion sensing unit (typically black, white and green). Test wires with tester to be sure there is no current going through these wires. Remove wire caps from these wires. Flip the unit over. Unscrew the small screw from the locking collar that is around the swivel ball you will see close to the mounting plate. (It looks like a round ball on the end of a stick – this is what holds the sensing unit to the mounting plate and allows for position adjustment). Remove the sensing unit. Feed the wires from the new sensing unit through the hole where the old one was. Insert new
