The oil pan in your vehicle holds the oil that circulates through your engine. Inside the oil pan is an oil pick-up that picks up the oil from the pan to move it through the engine. The entire pan is bolted to the bottom of the engine and sealed with a gasket. Over time, it’s possible for this gasket to shrink or crack. This is especially true if you use engine oil additives or switch between synthetic and standard motor oil. When your pan begins to leak, the only real fix is to remove the oil pan and install a new gasket. Raise the vehicle onto jack stands. Jack up the front of the vehicle using the front jack point and place a jack stand under each front pinch weld. Then, lower the vehicle onto the stands. Place an oil catch pan under the oil pan, and drain the oil pan. Remove the oil pan drain bolt on the bottom of the pan and allow the pan to drain.
