How Do You Fix A Worm Composting Bin That Smells?

0

A healthy worm composting bin shouldn’t smell at all! Look here for simple tips to fix your smelly worm bin. Have you fed the worms more kitchen waste than they can handle? The solution is to simply stop feeding them for at least a week and see if it improves. Make sure all of the food is covered by the bedding (damp newspaper/cardboard works great). Is the bedding too wet? Worms (and the microorganisms) need air to stay healthy. Mix in dry strips of newspaper and cardboard to absorb the excess moisture. Make sure you have drainage holes on the bottom to stop moisture from pooling under the worms. Are the worms not receiving enough air? Make sure the lid is NOT airtight, there are holes for ventilation on the sides, and holes for drainage on the bottom. If none of these work, you may have let it get too unhealthy for your worms to live. Check to see if you have a lot of LIVE worms. If not, you may need to start over with fresh bedding and a new batch of worms.
