How Do You Fix a Wet iPod?

The best way I have found to repair wet electronics is with alcohol. At your local drug store you can buy a bottle of rubbing alcohol, it will probably be in the first aid aisle with other cleansers like hydrogen peroxide. Make sure that the percentage on the bottle is at least 90% – any lower and it will leave a residue on your electronics, which will be ruined forever. Ninety-one percent is what you will likely find, but the higher the number, the better.

When you get home find a bowl or Tupperware that is large enough to fit your iPod easily. Place your iPod into the bowl and pour the alcohol over it until it is immersed completely. (Make sure that you are in a well ventilated room, alcohol fumes can get pretty bad.) Move the iPod around a bit to make sure the alcohol gets into all of the parts. Let it sit for a few moments before taking it out and laying it on a clean, lint-free towel. Pat the outside dry gently, then leave it so the inside can dry as well. Let it sit for at least half an hour while it dries before you try to turn your iPod on or use it.

This method doesn’t work one hundred percent of the time, but I have had quite a bit of success with it, even rescuing a phone that fell into a chlorinated pool. it works because alcohol has a very low evaporating point, so it evaporates very quickly and cleanly, removing the water from inside electronics.

In the course of using them, iPods get wet. It’s just a fact of life. Whether we spill drinks on them, accidentally drop them in the tub, have kids who soak them in the sink, or any number of other watery mishaps, they iPods get wet. But a wet iPod doesn’t necessarily mean a dead iPod. While sometimes a wet iPod can’t be saved no matter what you do, before you declare your beloved gadget dead, try these tips: Never turn it on – If your iPod is wet, never try to turn it on. If it’s already on, turn it off/use the hold button as quickly as possible. Shake the water out – Depending on how wet it got, you may be able see water in your iPod’s headphone jack, dock connector, or other areas. Shake the water out as much as possible and dry off the iPod. Leave it in a warm place – Once you’ve gotten the water you can see out of the way, keep your iP
