How Do You Fix A Washing Machine That Smells Bad?
There are many causes for odor in washing machines. The odor can be caused by a build-up of bacteria, soap scum, slime or mildew accumulating in places we can’t see. Odor can also be due to poor drainage. As dirty water becomes stagnant in the washer, any bacteria in the water will have a chance to grow. If the cause of odor is due to mold, then all you need to do is thoroughly clean your washer and keep it clean with regular maintenance. Put on the gloves and unplug your washer. This is for safety. Remove the detergent, bleach and/or fabric softener tray(s) and soak them in a bucket of hot water. This will loosen most of the gunky buildup. Remove the tray(s) and lay them out on some paper towels. Spray some all-purpose cleaner onto the tray. Use the old toothbrush to scrub away the buildup. Wipe away the loosened dirt with a sponge.
