If the gasket on the inside of your refrigerator door becomes stretched or worn, your refrigerator may not seal properly when the door is closed. With an improper seal, air leaks out of the refrigerator, keeping it from getting as cold as it should, risking food spoilage and wasting electricity. The gasket cannot be repaired, but replacing the gasket will ensure your refrigerator seals properly. Set the replacement gasket in a metal pan and cover it with boiling water. The gasket comes folded up and the hot water will straighten it out for installation. Open the refrigerator door and work the rubber gasket loose at the top of the door by pulling it up. This may take some physical effort. Loosen the screws holding the old gasket in place on the top and halfway down each side of the door. Don’t remove the screws all the way.
