Step 1 Remove any attachments, such as hoses, and use a broom handle or a skinny pole to push clogs and debris out of them. These can constrict the airflow and keep the vacuum from working right. Step 2 Unplug the vacuum, and for upright models, lay them down and remove the screws from the underside. Take off the underside cover so you can see the parts inside the vacuum.
