The P-trap is the pipe under your sink that attaches your sink drain to the drain pipe in the wall. It looks somewhat like the letter “P” and it also requires replacement every so often. If you are getting clogs in your sink that nothing seems to fix, then there is a good chance that the P-trap is clogged by years of hair and other materials that are not worth clearing out. A P-trap is inexpensive and easy to replace. Turn off the water supply to the sink. With some sinks, the valves to shut off the water supply are found on the pipes under the sink. If you do not have valves under the sink, the turn off the water supply to the house. The easiest way to do this is to follow the water pipe into your house from the outside and turn off the first valve you find. It is usually near the water meter. Unscrew the caps at both ends of the existing P-trap and remove the P-trap from the pipes. If you have a P-trap with metal caps on it, then you may need to loosen them up with an adjustable plum
