Although a noisy washing machine is not typically a sign that something is broken, it definitely can be annoying. Usually the noise from a washing machine can be fixed fairly easily, but a few different fixes may need to be tried before it can be determined what the true culprit of the noise was. Step 1 Check the drum bearings if the washing machine is making a rumbling noise. The noise may possibly stem from water getting into the bearings. Take the belt off and spin the drum by hand. If there is a rumble, remove the bearings and replace them with new ones. Step 2 Check the spider at the back of the drum. The spider is the three-armed device that holds the drum in place.
