How Do You Fix A Leaky Sink Trap?
Sinks traps hold back dangerous sewer gases from entering a home. They hold a small amount of water inside a J-shaped pipe. Over time, the plastic washer or rubber o-ring may become worn from a loose fitting. Once the seal is compromised, the pipe connectors will begin to leak. By using a couple of hand tools, you can replace the washers or o-rings in a matter of minutes and stop any leaks under the sink. Place the plastic bucket under the sink drain trap. The trap will resemble the letter “J.” Grab the large nut on one end of the trap. Attempt to turn the large nut in a clockwise direction. It the nut turns by hand, you may have just found the problem. Finish tightening the nut with the plumber pliers. Check the other plastic nut on the other end of the trap in the same fashion. Run water down the drain while keeping the bucket in place. If the leak has ceased, you have just corrected the problem. If it is still leaking, move on to the next step.
