Having a leaky shower drain can be a huge problem. This is especially true when you are dealing with a shower that is on the second floor, or there is a basement beneath it. When your shower drain begins to leak that water can damage not only the floor, but also the ceiling below it. Many times the water will begin to even drip through the ceiling of the floor below it and cause more damage to the carpet or furniture below. This problem can be an expensive one to have fixed, but many times replacing the drain will help. This project is relatively easy to do and may solve your problem quicker and cheaper than calling in a plumber. Pry up the drain cover for your shower with the flathead screwdriver. Very rarely will you encounter a cover that is screwed down. Unthread the compression nut that using your needlenose pliers. This will allow you to lift out the compression gasket. You will also need the needlenose pliers to actually pull the gasket out of the drain. Remove the drain body. M
