A leaky one-handled bathtub faucet is often a result of a worn cartridge. Single-handle faucets use a cartridge to distribute the hot and cold water supply. Over time, sediment builds up and the rubber rings can become faulty, resulting in an ever increasing drip in your faucet. You will need to remove the old cartridge to purchase the new cartridge. When going to the plumbing-supply store, have the brand name of your faucet with you as well as the cartridge. The brand name is usually found on the decorative plate on the back of the faucet handle. Turn the water supply off at the water shut-off valve. Some homes have an access door to the bathtub plumbing in another room. If you do not have an access to the plumbing from inside, you may have to go under the house to shut the bathroom plumbing water supply off.
