How Do You Fix A Leaking Outdoor Faucet?

0

Over time a leaking outdoor faucet will waste large quantities of water, and cost you extra money by increasing your water bills. In most cases, the cause of the leak is a small problem that is relatively easy to fix with some basic tool skills. Shut off the water supply to the faucet before you begin. If there is not a valve indoors close to the faucet, you may have to shut off the main water supply. Fully open the faucet by turning the knob counter-clockwise. Tighten a Crescent wrench onto the section behind the packing nut and above the spout. Tighten a second Crescent wrench around the faucet where it attaches to the building, and turn the first Crescent wrench to remove the valve assembly. Use the Crescent wrench to unscrew the packing nut, and remove it by sliding it up the stem. This will expose the packing washer which has to be removed with a flat-headed screwdriver. Insert a new packing washer in place of the old one, and slide the packing nut back down the stem. Look inside
